The Digger and the Flower by Joseph Kuefler
We are in love with this book. It manages to weave together a tale about three big trucks, with a powerful message of connection to nature – with just a few words per page.
Crane, (bull)Dozer and Digger are hard workers, building an urban cityscape with “tall buildings for working”, “roads for driving and bridges for crossing”, when Digger spots a tiny, beautiful blue flower, growing in the rubble.
When the bloom is cruelly cut down he notices, amidst his distress “little seeds”, which he whisks away into the green beyond the city, and plants.
Wonderful for joint storytimes with toddlers and older children.
