The Baby BeeBee Bird by Diane Redfield Massie, illustrated by Steven Kellogg
The animals at the zoo are tired after a long day. So tired, that they have all dozed off, until they hear a very small bird making a big racket. “Beebeebobbibobbi beebeebobbibobbi…”.
“‘What,’ said the elephant, ‘is THAT?'”
The giraffe explains that it is the baby bee bee bird, who is new to the zoo. He politely asks the bird to be quiet.
“‘But I cant,’ said the beebee bird. ‘I’m wide awake.'” He slept all day and now it is time for him to “SING”. Other animals renew the request, less politely, their facial expressions dramatically illustrated.
When the zookeeper arrives the next morning, he finds the animals in a bad way: the elephant is lying down, as are the lion, eagle and snake. As the baby bee bee bird settles down for his morning nap, the other animals devise a plan to get his sleep on track.
A relatable story for parents, and an exceptionally fun one for children.
