Jabari Jumps by Gaia Cornwall (ages 3-5)
Jabari is at the pool with his dad and his little sister. He has finished his swimming lessons, passed his swim test, and is ready to jump off the big diving board. In fact, he’s a great jumper – so he’s not scared at all.
“Looks easy,” says Jabari, as he watches other children jump off. But when his dad squeezes his hand, Jabari squeezes back.
Jabari seems to be stalling. He watches other children climb up and jump off. Then he decides he had better do some stretching.
“It’s okay to feel a little scared,” his dad offers. With those and a few other choice words of support, maybe Jabari will muster up the courage to make a splash.
Delightful in every way.
